Atlantic Beach Preservation will host a panel discussion on “Hurricanes and Our Beaches: What You Need to Know” on Tuesday, November 14th at the Community Presbyterian Church Hall at 150 Sherry Drive from 6:30 - 8 pm.
Our beach communities were left reeling after Hurricane Matthew only to be hit again 11 months later by an even stronger Hurricane Irma. The City of Atlantic Beach has met each emergency with excellent preparation and communication.
However, our city did not have significant damage because of the protection of our dunes. Now these dunes have sustained enough damage that future storms could result in severe flooding.
Addressing these issues our panel includes City of Atlantic Beach Commander Victor Gualillo, who will speak about our city’s Emergency Preparedness System; Kevin Bodge, Coastal and Ocean Engineer with Olsen and Associates; and Kevin Brown, local environmentalist and Fletcher High School science teacher who has led sea oats planting efforts.
Atlantic Beach Preservation is formed to protect neighborhoods, businesses, the environment and the general wellbeing of the uniqueness of the Atlantic Beach community. ABP is a non-partisan, not for profit organization.
